What is Alignment Based Yoga?
Yoga originated from India about 5,000 years ago, translating the word “yoga” into “union” referring to the connection between the body, mind and heart. As a spiritual practice that helps us unify our bodies, minds and hearts, it is a direct experience of the vast inter-relatedness of all life and of all things. You will feel at peace at the end of a class because there is a natural realignment of your body which leads to a natural realignment of your perception of life and of who you are at your core. This practice will give you a better sense of rebalance and help to focus and calm the mind.
If you are of older age, this yoga would be perfect for you. As we get older we move our bodies to a least resistant alignment, this can cause two problems tight muscles and overlaying joints that cause hypermobility.
By paying attention to alignment in the body, the poses can help mobilize the joints that need it the most, and stabilize the joints that are at risk of becoming over-mobile. As you move forward in this type of yoga, you will start to become more aware of your body and notice when something does not feel right. Having the proper experience, you can easily correct it with the right poses and realignment of your body to feel better at ease. If you are suffering from arthritis, realignment based yoga is great by relieving tension and pain that are concentrated between two joints or bones.
The payoff from this type of yoga is well worth your time and patience.
No matter what age, health status, level of fitness, flexibility, or state of mind you can attain the benefits of yoga both on the mat and in your daily life.
